Mumbai Indians lost their second straight match on Tuesday extending their disappointing campaign in the Indian Premier League this season, with perhaps their only silver lining emerging in Suryakumar Yadav.
In what turned out to be a low scoring affair at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Sunrisers Hyderabad bowled brilliantly to defend a paltry 118 as MI were bowled out for a stingy 87.
Yadav, who led Triumph Knights Mumbai North East to the title in the inaugural T20 Mumbai league, opened the innings to find wickets tumbling at the other end. As a result, the otherwise aggressive player took a step back and crafted a slow and steady game to reassure the cause of Mumbai.

With the score at 21 for 3 in the sixth over, Yadav along with Krunal Pandya stabilised the MI innings upping the scoreboard to 61 in the 12th over before Pandya got caught in the front by the crafty Rashid Khan.
The scorecard soon read 73/5, the asking rate climbed with the tail on the verge of being exposed. In an effort to wrest back control of the game, Yadav succumbed as he thwacked one to Rashid Khan standing at deep square leg off an inward-angling Basil Thampi delivery.
A constant shimmer of hope, Suryakumar Yadav nevertheless top scored in the match with his 34 off 38 balls, that included four 4s, at a strike of 89.47 contributing 39 percent of his side’s total.
It was the second straight match where Yadav emerged as the top scorer in a fixture following his exploits against Rajasthan Royals.
His consistency has ensured that he has now put on 230 runs in IPL 2018, becoming the leading run scorer for Mumbai Indians. He is sixth in the overall list, a run behind Virat Kohli, and a contender for the Orange Cap.
It’s easily the 27-year-old’s best IPL so far, albeit not so much for Mumbai Indians unfortunately.
